Windows 7 Offers A Wide Array Of Security Improvements
Posted by SecExtra on February 08th, 2010

There is no question that security remains a prime concern for IT professionals as cyber attacks and online scams continue to occur on a daily basis. With the release of Windows 7, many are wondering what kind of security measures the new system has to offer.

There are three primary facets to understand about Windows 7 security. First, it was built based on the security foundations of the Windows Vista operating system. It did, however, improve auditing and the User Account Control experience. This makes it much easier for an organization to meet its regulatory and business compliance requirements.

The next thing to know is that it helps IT control what software can run in the environment with AppLocker. AppLocker is a flexible, easy-to-administer mechanism that will allow IT to control what runs in the desktop infrastructure while giving users the freedom to run applications, installation programs, and scripts they need to. In general, this feature has three rule types with allow, deny and exception.

The final upgrade to make note of with Windows 7 security is the addition of BitLocker To Go. This feature extends BitLocker support to removable storage devices like your USB flash drive and portable disk drives. In addition, it will also provide administrators control over how removable storage devices are used within the general public and the kind of protecting they require.

You will find a tremendous amount of security upgrades and features with Windows 7. With improvements to auditing, AppLocker, and BitLocker, users can finally feel safe with their online experience.
